The Study Of Location Of Vehicle Plate And Plate Characters Recognition

The research about how to automatic recognize the vehicle plate is very meaningful. In this paper, an algorithm about how to recognize the vehicle plate has been suggested.The algorithm can be divided into three parts, which are the location of the vehicle plate, the characters segmentation of the vehicle plate and the characters recognition.In the first part, based on the texture characteristics of the plate, a novel algorithm to locate the vehicle plate has been researched using color image process technology. The result of the algorithm is agreeable. To improve the algorithm's real-time performance, an edge detection process has been involved.In the second part, after the location of the plate image, the emphasis point is the emendation of the plate image for the tilt view angle. A new method using morphological operations has been researched and provided an ideal output.In the last part of the plate characters recognition, it is easily accomplished because of its small species. Here, I use the pattern matching method to realize it, especially using the modified Hausdorff distance as the evaluation criterion. The result proves that the method is feasible.With the test of many experiment vehicle images, the validity of the algorithm has been verified.
