More and more 32bits embedded micro-processors such as ARM processor are used in embedded system and have almost been the hardware standard in industrial control field. One hand, it has the execellent advantages including smaller space, powerful performance, low power dissipation, high reliability. On the other hand, it provides hardware platform for high speed operating system steadily. Therefore, embedded systems made up of hardware platform based on 32bits Micro-Processor and embedded operating system have been widely used in industry control, consume electronic, national defence, network communication field and so on.This paper is based on two practical software projects. The first one is about GPS communication application used in some position system based on VxWorks (an execellent RTOS). The hardware platform is based on CHAMP-AV III. The other is a display and console application used in portable imaging sonar. Its hardware platform is based on Cirrus Logic Commany's EP9312 ARM processor. Its software platform is Microsoft Commany's Windows CE.NET. The hardware and software platform make up a whole embedded system together.It focuses on embedded operating system and how to port it to a new platform and how to use them better in the paper. First of all, an introduction is given about the hardware platform based on Windows CE.NET, the resource of the platform. Then some techniques on how to build and configure cross development environment and how to customsize OS kernel are presented in detail. Finally, Windows CE.NET have been ported to NK9312 evaluation board, including BSP development, boot loader development and serial port driver development.On the development of software, the requirement analysis is given in GPS communication application based on VxWorks, and then some key techniques are discussed and all tested. GPS data communication is realized on the CHAMP-AV III DSP board. On the design of the portable imaging sonar's UI (user interface) and console, including GUI (graphic user interface), Winsock program, display console and system intergration was the kernel part of the paper. This paper provided some practical solution scheme about above problems finally.
