Photonic crystals and left-handed materials are two hot research interests. PBG has found its application in the fields of microwave and optics. Theoretical research of left-handed materials has also reached further strategy, and its application has been done.In the beginning, this paper introduces the basic characteristic of PBG, on the basis of which, the edge-slotted waveguide phased array integrated with PBG has been analyzed and produced, and the further research into the waveguide end-slot phased array has been made. The integration of PBG improves the performance of the edge-slotted waveguide phased array, and effectively removes the scan blindness of waveguide end-slot phased array, In the design of the edge-slotted waveguide phased array, the improvement of design efficiency is made by computer simulation. Also, the analysis of the scan blindness' occurrence in the open-ended waveguide phased array is done, and the numerical computation of the scan blindness is made, which offers help to the analysis of the scan blindness in the waveguide end-slot phased array. Finally, after the introduction of left-handed materials, an investigation of signal's transmission through the left-handed materials proves the dispersion of the left-handed materials, and the total reflection and the surface waves of left-handed materials are presented.
