Data warehousing technology supports information management for decision making by integrating data from operational systems and external sources in a separate database, the data warehouse (DW). In contrast to operational systems which store detailed, atomic and current data accessed by OLTP (on-line transactional processing) applications, data warehousing technology aims at providing integrated, consolidated and historical data for OLAP (online analytical processing) applications. The synthetic and flexible analysis requirements of decision makers can be well met by joint utilization of Data Warehouse technology and OLAP. The development of DW is the basis of the whole DW system. So we probed into some key technologies in data warehouse system by the example of the DW of resident population. The contribution of this thesis are following as three points: First, to implement fast, analysis, shared, multidimensional and information of OLAP, many data models have been raised, presently, Star Schema and Snow Flake Schema are popular in relational OLAP(ROLAP). The process of ROLAP Star Schema design in the DW of Resident population and some special problems such as factless table are presented. Secondly, when Parts of a practical system— Resident Management Information System designment are given. IDCard Management, Approvement Management, Query Module are modued with LJML and designed by modues brought forward. Some problems ecountered in system designment are analyzed and discussed and then above theories analyses are strengthened and improved. Some factors are considered and improved in the analyses and designment that are reuse, maintenance, expansibility, performance, efficiency, speed, opening, security, reliability and so on. Influences brought those factors are analyzed and discussed. Some errors often made by developer and designer are brought forward and resolvement ways are given.
