Now it is a pop item that how to use the natural gas to make C2 hydrocarbon in the world. In our lab we use a new important way—microwave discharge to produce plasma and couple methane. Microwave discharge can produce high conversion and it has no pole and no pollution, but carbon is easily produced. In this paper the rectangle resonance reactor is used. The main content is the action under the low pressure and the action adding H2 to eliminate carbon. Then a long experiment was made with a propriety proportion of CH4 and H2.In this paper the proceeding about the making C2 using low temperature plasma is summarized, and then the system in the lab is done. In the third chapter the plasma is summarized. It contains the principle of gas discharge, the usual ways to couple methane using cold plasma and the characteristic parameters of plasma, and so on.In the forth chapter the microwave plasma is discussed. It contains the theory model and gas breaking and the steadily discharge. And it was discussed the relationship between the pressure and the least microwave electric field to broke gas, and the case when it discharged steadily.In the fifth chapter the rule of methane conversion was discussed under the low pressure. The pressure was from 47Pa to 5000Pa .Then under the air pressure H2 was added to eliminate carbon. A long time (30minutes) action was done under the normal pressure and n(CH4)/n(H2) was 1/4. The result was very good.In the end, the probable reactive paths for the coupling reaction of methane under plasma were discussed. Using the particle collision theory and thermodynamics theory and the theory about the metastable particle, we think it has two steps. First, the able particle came into being. Second, the outcome did.The work of this paper studied on making C2 hydrocarbon by coupling methane under microwave plasma in the theory and experiment.
