With the high speed development of Internet, people put forward the higher demand for secure and convenient individual identification technology. Traditional identity recognition technologies have not suit the identity recognition in modern times for their bad ability against forging. So biometrics recognition methods are brought forward. Iris identification is regarded as one of the most promising biometric recognition technology. Therefore, identification system based on iris recognition has been the research heat of the information safe realm in current domestic and international area in recent years.The system of iris recognition is mainly included of four parts: iris image acquisition, image preprocessing pretreatment, feature extraction, match and recognition. It involves numerous discipline domains, such as computer vision and digital image processing, wavelet theory, pattern recognition etc. Iris location and feature extraction are the keys of iris recognition system.In this paper we have researched the current situation on the iris recognition technique and compared the exciting iris recognition algorithms. In the research of the iris location algorithm, a new three step approach based on the different feature of iris inner and outer edge is put forward. Compared with tradition algorithm of location, it is able to carry out fast iris location and overcome the question of slow speed, which results from Hough transformation or Edge detection directly. So, it improves the iris recognition speed.In this paper through deeply researching Wavelet transform theory and integrating characteristic of Multi-Resolution Analysis, we use 2-D Wavelet transform to extract the feature of iris image. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed improved algorithm is feasible for iris recognition. At the same time make use of Hamming distance to proceed the mode matches and the result analyzes, obtaining to the identify result goodly.
