Nowadays, P2P (Peer-to-Peer) network becomes more and more popular, and most applications are based on unstructured P2P network. On the other hand, with explosive increasement of data content in Internet, people's demand for high-quality network storage service is rapidly rising. Rather than unstructured P2P network, structured P2P network is naturally more suitable to construct modern network storage system. Generally, these structured P2P networks are based on DHT (Distributed Hash Table) and with the advantage of good scalability.This paper proposes Segment Storage System (S3): a network storage service based on P2P network model, which providing high availability, high reliability and high durability. In S3, files are divided into segments and segments of one file are spread over several share nodes which are near in network location. With some elegant schemes, S3 integrates segment indexing and node addressing information.
