Compared with traditional microwave filters, cross-coupling resonator filters can provide higher selectivity and smaller size. Therefore, cross-coupling resonator filters have received wide interests and intense research efforts. In this thesis, the synthesis and design theory of the cross-coupling resonator filter, as well as the related theories and technologies, are studied. Emphasis has been laid on the synthesis and design of the cross-coupling resonator filter with source-load coupling.Firstly, based on the general design theory of general filters, the synthesis and design theory of the cross-coupling resonator filter have been studied. The equivalent circuit model has been presented, and the difference between the elliptic function and the transfer function of the cross-coupling resonator filter is analyzed. Then the methods for generating the quasi-elliptic function are demonstrated. Secondly, the techniques for synthesis of the coupling matrix are given, and several design examples are presented. Lastly, synthesis and design of cross-coupling resonator filter with source-load coupling are studied in detail. The modified equivalent circuit model is provided and the methods for synthesizing the coupling matrix are introduced. According to this, two kinds of novel hexagon resonator filters are designed. The measured data, simulated results and the ideal data are in good agreement, which not only verifies the synthesis method discussed in this paper, but also demonstrates that the novel structures can effectively reduce the size and enhance the performance of the filter.
