Capillary discharge-pumped soft X-ray laser is a compact, tabletop soft X-ray laser, which has great research value and practicability. In this thesis, the optimum conditions for capillary discharge X-ray laser are summarized.In theory, the snow-plow which is programmed in C programming language is used as the stimulation which describes the condition of plasma in capillary with different Argon pressure and current in capillary. We discuss the relation between the time when the plasma is thinnest and the pressure or peak value of current in the capillary. The result of theory analysis indicate that the X-ray laser come into being after the plasma is pinched several times, which is accord with the result of experiment very well.In the experiment setup alteration and servicing research, firstly, the principles and characteristics of each main part of the capillary discharge X-ray laser setup are introduced. Secondly, a Rogowski coil is made and calibrated which can measure the current in capillary more exactly. A new pulse voltage setup is designed to touch off the pre-pulse, which is able to work stably in very adverse electromagnetic environment, and the security and reliability of the discharge setup is raised. At last, some part of the capillary discharge setup was reconstructed to improve the insulation ability of the setup.In experiment research, firstly, the coaxial cable which connects with the oscillograph is twisted on a ferromagnetic ring to restrain the undesired signal. Secondly, three kinds of main switch are used in the experiment. The inductance of every main switch is estimated and the current amplitude and duration are calculated with pulse power theory. The theoretical results are compared with the experimental data. Both the theory and experimental results show that the ring-disk-shaped main switch, which discharge distance is 3cm, is fit for soft X-ray laser best. Next, several electric pole in capillary with different shape and material are used, the experimental result indicate that the cylindrical molybdenum electric pole is fit for the measure of laser gain, because its breakdown voltage is suitable and the plasma produced by it is uniform and the fluorescence is feeble.
