With the rapid development of the short-distance Ultra-Wideband(UWB) technology, the requirements of the antenna used in the communication systems have become increasingly harsh. UWB antennas have been widely applied for military affairs such as precision positioning and detecting, satellite communications, weapon homing and so on. Moreover, more and more requirements and applications of UWB antennas have been put forward in the civilian communication systems, for example, WPAN, instead of traditional network, RF technology can be utilized to transmit and receive signals wirelessly, etc. Especially, miniaturized and circularly polarized UWB antennas have tremendous potential in space, airborne and missile for not only their coplanar and conformal structure but also their easily integrated characteristic. UWB technology has the advantages of wideband, low power cost and high data rate which can be satisfied with the need of short-distance wireless communication. More and more scholars over the world have pay attention to this technology.Several kinds of improved ring slot antennas have been discussed in this thesis with optimized performance, miniaturization and circular polarization. Besides, the principle, design and testing work of the antennas have been analyzed. The main devices in the transmitter also have been presented. The simulation results of short distance UWB wireless communication have been described in the last part. The thesis is classified into3 parts stated as follow.Firstly, UWB theory and UWB antenna presented recently have been introduced simply. Several kinds of improved ring slot antennas have been designed, compared with traditional ones, they have many advantages. The design process and simulation results have been given out. The far field and near field theory of the novel antenna and the testing measures and results of the practicality are proposed.Secondly, two standards of UWB is introduced, and the general design theories and methods are discussed. Design and simulate separately link budget calculation of the transmit-receive RF system, getting circuit system in accord with one standard. Specifications have been customized according to link budget calculation and thedesign and simulation of subcircuits have been finished.Thirdly, UWB transceiver system simulation has been performed in Matlab Simulink and the results have been analyzed.
