Recently ultra wide band (UWB) wireless communication technology has been regarded by academic line and Industrial line as a very important way of indoor short distance, high speed transitions in present. In the past, UWB mainly apply in the RADAR and GPS positing device. Due to UWB communication has lower emitting power, high data transmit speed, weak sensitivity to channel fading, good ability to anti-intercept and high accuracy locating resolution, it effectively solves the contradict between the high speed data transmit in the enterprises, families and public scenes and very congested frequency resource assignment. On 14th January 2002, America Federal Communications Commission (FCC) admit UWB technology to apply in civil field such as Radar measurement, metal detection and communication, after carefully investigating the electrical magnetic interference and security problem caused by UWB system for exiting system as GPS, WLAN. Since on then, the study of UWB technology has been become hot point.This thesis puts emphases on the UWB channel modeling and double carrier (DC) OFDM UWB system. In the begging, the history of UWB's development, the definition by FCC and the state of the art of UWB are introduced, then the working principles of three kinds of UWB system such as the impulse UWB , DS-CDMA UWB and MB OFDM UWB. Then beginning with introducing the traditional wireless channel, UWB channel model is addressed, and the IEEE 802.15.3a channel model is simulated, its result proves that the channel generated by this model is very close to the indoor UWB channel measured in reality. And DC-OFDM UWB system is introduced, its design thought, system simulation and analysis of system performance are briefly discussed. At last, the development of the criteria of UWB and UWB products are mentioned. The prospect of UWB application and the difficulty points and the study direction of UWB are analyzed.
