Gigahertz Transverse Electromagnetic (GTEM) cells are widely used for Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) applications. Design and manufacture of GTEM cells needs theoretical analysis, so the characteristics of GTEM cell is caculated using numerical methods.A three dimensional Finite-Difference Time-Domain (FDTD) representation of the GTEM adapter is described. Field contour and voltage standing wave ratio (VSWR) are shown as the results calculated. According to the field behavior, the breakdown strength is discussed and it is shown that for higher voltage application, a new adapter need to be proposed.A high voltage GTEM adapter is designed and its structure is optimized using Finite Element Method (FEM).The field pattern of the work area of a GTEM cell is caculated using FDTD method, and it's uniformity variations with frequency and position is researched. The result shows that the field uniformity satisfys relevant EMC standards when the frequency is below 1GHz.The field of the work area is tested and it showed a good consistency between the caculated and tested results. .
