Fiber Sagnac loop filter has received great attention because of its tunableness, low insert loss and simple configuration. Characteristics and the improved methods of three types of Sagnac loop filter configuration are analyzed in this thesis. First, a symmetric chirped fiber grating inserted into a Sagnac loop is proposed for the first time. It has advantages such as larger band width, more pass bands and equal intervals. Second, the filtering characteristics of the fiber Sagnac loop filter, which is composed of several pieces of high birefringence fibers (HBFs) are studied, and transfer function of the filter is derived. The relation between the frequency response and the parameters of the filter, such as the length, the piece number of the HBFs and the angles between the HBFs is discussed. Last, the filtering characteristics of a Sagnac filter with a single HBF ring resonator is investigated. This filter has improved output character than a single fiber ring resonator and boxlike response is realized. Work in this thesis might provide important reference to design of Sagnac loop filters.
