Research And Development Of Virtual Endoscopy

Endoscopy is a very important part of modern medical technology. It helps not only diagnose but surgery as well, avoiding patient suffering from further pain. But it still needs to insert probes into patient's body that makes patient uncomfortable and doctor hard to manipulate.With the development of computer visualization, virtual endoscopy comes into being which makes up the defects of optical endoscopy. It is a totally non-invasive method which reduces the uncomfortable feeling a lot. The goal of virtual endoscopy is to assist doctors to diagnose and to train new hospital comers.This thesis outlines several kinds of key technologies of virtual endoscopy, fulfills the system by VC and reaches the expected goal.In the aspect of medical image segmentation, after summarizing several general segmentation methods, we discuss two main means: Fast Marching and Live Wire.
