With the development of IC design and manufacture technology, SOC has been becoming the mainstream in IC design field. IP reusing has become a main design method in the SOC development. A design and study of MCU based on SOC has been done in this paper.The design technology of MCU has been systemic studied in this paper. The technology of constitute scheme, modularize design flow, simulate and emulate, logic synthesis, cooperate with software and hardware has been researched and mastered from the point of application. An analysis on architecture, instruction and system timing of PIC17C42 MCU has been implemented. And partition the system in levels and function modules. Two examples, the key modules ALU and serial communication port based on PIC17C42 MCU have been designed. The analysis of function and arithmetic has been researched and the relevant scheme has been designed. The design has been implemented with Verilog HDL. All the RTL codes of the design can be synthesized. Its programming and designing condition is MAX+PLUS II, and what can be done on this platform is coding and simulation of each level. The synthesizing tool is Synplify. IP reusing has been realized.Then, the RTL describing of ALU and USART module of MCU has been realized. The circuits synthesizing and pre-simulation are based on FPGA. The synthesizing of the USART based on ASIC, the mapping on technology library, the simulation and verification of circuit based on net table have been done, the logic synthesizing and time analysis verification of the ASIC post-design have been studied.
