Multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) makes significant progress in smart antenna technology of wireless communications due to the superior ability of improving the system capacity and the spectrum use ratio. And space-time coding is one of the effective ways to improve system capacity by employing diversity to against wireless fading. In the most existed works on space-time coding, it is assumed that each element of the MIMO channel matrix fades independently. However it may not hold true in practice due to the limited antenna spacing and the lack of scattering.In this thesis, space-time block coding and differential space-time coding are discussed on the basis of"one-ring"correlated channel model. The optimal power allocation among different beams is employed, which is the key point of the feasibility of employing eigen-beamforming to differential space-time coding and space-time block coding. The bit error rate is analyzed. And the simulation is performed. The simulation results confirm that the optimal power allocation method outperforms not only the equal power allocation across all antennas,but also the conventional beamformer. The bit error rate performance for different channels are compared with each other. And the bit error rate performance curves are generalized to multiple receive antennas.
