Since the beginning of 1990 worldwide research activities have been increasing dramatically and the industrial interest in digital watermarking methods keeps growing. Various watermarking schemes have been introduced for several years in order to improve the visual imperceptibility of watermarks in images and their robustness to attacks from users. But there still lacks of a universally recognized procedure enabling comparisons of their performances resorting to common and objective criteria with respect to existing (and future) applications. Supported by the grant of key project of Ministry of Education, we mainly research on benchmarking image and video watermarking system in this thesis.Firstly, all of the parameters that performance evaluation are concluded and analyzed in details. The different parameters involved in benchmarking a watermarking system are described. For parameters to-be-measured, we discuss which practical ways exist to measure them. Also, attention is put on how to represent the outcomes in a practical way in a few numbers and figures.Secondly, the basic architecture for the benchmarking tool is introduced. Two kinds of users are distinguished, which leads to a different modular organization of the platform. The modular structure and data flow are implemented which make of the architecture. The detailed design of each modular is presented, including data structure and the solution of crucial issues. At last, the approach of user interface is also given.Finally, the thesis is concluded, and some further research issues are presented.
