The paper contains two tasks, which belong to the key project of ocean environment monitor technology, resource environment technology field, one Ninth Five-Year Plan (2000-2005), National'863'Hi-Tech R&D Program. The first is youth fund task, which name is the Developing of Turbidity Sensor on in-situ Oceanic observation, with serial number 2002AA639520 dating from 10/2002 to 10/2004. The second is its continuity, which name is not changed and which serial number is converted to 2005AA635210.The primary purpose of youth fund task is to complete principal instrument of turbidity sensor. The main intention of the second task is to accomplish every prototype of turbidity sensor and a direct-reading turbidity sensor. The paper is written based on the second task.Self-content turbidity sensor has its own battery and monitors water quality independently. It can be integrated on the water quality meter or buoy. Probe has a brush on the top, cleaning optic lens before each time of measuring, in order to prevent contamination and biosorption, with effectively being used for a long time in-situ oceanic measuring. At the beginning of being used in a period of time, it is needed to set work and work state; after the period, all data should be got from sensor.Direct-reading turbidity sensor is mostly used in quick measure for the different aim of monitoring water quality. It consists of under-water unit and palmar unit. Under water unit mostly fulfill measuring turbidity value and palmar unit can be used to display and save data form under-water unit, and manage battery and so on.Improvements on the base of youth fund task are listed as follows:1. change the measuring range to increase precision2. add palmar unit to form direct-reading turbidity sensor.3. manufacture self-content turbidity sensor.4. improve on operational interface.5. calibrate independently for every measuring range.6. change principal instrument to prototype.
