Optical bistability is a new nonlinear optical phenomenon which attracted people's attention after 15 years of laser invention. It is a very important research direction in optics field. Optical Bistability has been found important applications in many fields such as optical communication, optical computing, optical sensor, laser power control and optical high accuracy measurement. By Comparing with electronic component, optical bistability device not only has similar functions, but also has many excellent performances such as anti- electromagnetic disturbance, rapid response and so on. With the development of fiber technology recent years, fiber optical bistability has been becoming one of the hotspots of research. Fiber components have virtues such as compactness, high stability, long life and low cost, which provide probability for abroad application of optical bistability.In this thesis, the characters and the effect of parameters of some nonlinear fiber filter were discussed combining with the development of fiber components technology and a new filtering structure was proposed. According to the principle of optical bistability, the optical bistable characteristics of intensity tuning for two kind of optical fiber component were investigated. Optical modulating device is improved based on the mechanism for optical bistability in frequency domain using tunable fiber laser and the fiber system of all-optical bistability in frequency domain was designed. The applications in some fields such as laser power stabilization, frequency stabilization and fiber sensor were also discussed.Firstly the transmission character and its parameter influence for double-coupler and double-Sagnac resonator were discussed. We proposed a new kind of double-ring resonator and discussed its application in enhancement of nonlinear contribution. By analyzing the all-fiber reflecting M-Z interferometer, we compared it with the traditional transmitted M-Z interferometer.Secondly, after investigating the intensity tuning optical bistability characters of double-coupler and double-Sagnac resonator, their bistable loops with different parameters were discussed.
