The dissertation is mainly concerned with design and research of the portable intelligent instrument based on embedded system. Considered the problem of inconvenient circumstances of engineering and technical personnel's being measuring signals and analyzing data outdoors, especially field work, the instrument with the functions of signal sampling, spectrum analysis, signal generating, is designed.At the beginning, the concept, development, structure of intelligent instruments and the definition and component of embedded systems, which make readers more understood to concepts of the intelligent instrument based on embedded technology, are introduced in the dissertation. After that, the design approach of embedded systems is explained and the demand analysis on the intelligent instrument is described. For the understanding of the integrated design, schemes of the hardware and the software are given respectively.Then, the whole hardware design and the building of the software developing platform are elaborated as the main parts of the dissertation. After the core structure of ARM microprocessors and the comparison between them are simply introduced, Samsung S3C44B0X microprocessor chip with ARM7TDMI core is determined as the computing kernel of the entire embedded system. In the following sections, design and realization approaches of peripheral circuits, involved RESET, FLASH, SDRAM, LCD and USB interface circuit, are illustrated in detail. Aimed at the functions of signal sampling and signal generating, circuit designs related to them are given. In the part of the building of software developing platform, how to design and realize the bootload is analyzed and presented at first, followed by device drivers on the system. Second, the Graphic Device Interface (GDI) is designed and realized, and a kind of tool for improving efficiency on graphic program development is developed. To resolve the problem of the data storage, the principle of the FAT16 file system is discussed and the detailed design and realization approach are given in the end.
