The main purpose of Software Radio is to build a general platform that integrates various signal process models together. It is different from common communication system. Software Radio system is based on a general platform with many software models and the core processor is DSP or FPGA. The Software Radio design is easier than hardware. Hardware design needs to change PCB or chips when system requirement is changed. Therefore, the design based on Software Radio is easy to update and expand in the future.The character of Software Radio requires this system to identify modulation type automatically because various modulation and signal types are integrated in the same board. Therefore, the researches of signal identification become more and more important.According to the requirement of actual Software Radio system, the current research has focused on modulation type identification, especially on extract of parameters and the judgment of modulation signals character. In order to avoid the false judgment in signal identification during the identification process, the research applied timing division to optimize signal waveform. After the process of timing division, signals' characters became easy to extract and the errors of judgment have been reduced successfully. Through many tests of signal identification, it is obvious that timing division is helpful to signal identification.
