Since the first laser was invented by Maiman in 1960, many developed countries in the world have made great effort to develop the laser technology, and now many kinds of lasers have played an important role in various fields. Especially, since the achievements of high-power, high-brightness solid-state lasers, the military usage of solid-state lasers has attracted a large amount of interest, as solid-state lasers are easy to achieve high mobility, low weight, many developed countries are doing their best to improve the output energy of the solid-state lasers by adopting various advanced technologies. Since a solid-state laser medium absorbs pumping radiation and deposits heat energy when pumping, and a heat flow dues to surface cooling, thermal effect comes into being. If the pumping power increases, thermal effect will exacerbate, which will increase the threshold of the laser, reduce efficiency , result in the nonuniformity of the refractive index and optic distortion and lower optical quality of the laser. Therefore, the research activities on the thermal effects of high energy solid-state lasers are great importance and significance. Based on the development and application of solid-state laser weapons, thermal effects of high energy solid-state lasers and thermal management technologies are analyzed in the paper. The main results are summarized as follows:1. A feasible way and prepositional way to develop high energy laser...
