In order to implement some special tasks, space vehicles are equipped with space arms. Due to the room limitationand the overload in the stage of launch, space arms are commonly furled, at the same time, a special locking device is applied to protect it. After space vehicles reach destined orbit, locking device will be unlocked and space arms are released. So locking device must be reliable, which is the key to the mission of the space arm.Design and analysis of the locking device are carried out aimed at a designated space arm. The locking device can not only support and lock the space arm in the stage of transport and launch to avoid distorting with great inertial force, but also releases reliably before the space arm start working. At the same time, the locking device neither influences the movement of the space arm and the satellite nor produces any space garbage for its parts are designed properly.Design of the locking device for the space arm is carried out based on statics by rules of light, high strenght, little energy and high stability for space product and the specific demand of the designated space arm.The band is a key part to the locking device, which is applied to lock space arm. Based on multiple flexible body dynamics, the band releasing process is analyzed in detail. The feasibility and safety of the locking device is verified by the motion simulation in ADAMS. According to simulation result, influencing factors on the recover track is analyzed. It is verified that the locking device can survive successfully under all kinds of circumstances in the stage of transport and launch by the dynamic analysis, and the reliability is also verified. The prototype of locking device is manufactured and tested.
