Artificial neural networks are nonlinear dynamic systems which are constituted of abundant simple processing units, their characteristics include parallel computing, memory distributing, self-learning and self-organization, etc. They are used to solve many artificial intelligence problems that are very difficult or impossible to be solved by traditional computer. Though neural network have good capabilities in information process, it should dependent on its hardware implementation-neural processor or neurocomputer which based on neural processor. There are three fields of Artificial Neural Networks (ANN) research: ANN theory, ANN application and implementation. This paper proposed an ANN research project, which involved in all the above three fields.Firstly, this paper reviewed the phylogeny and actuality of neural network, and summarized basal conceptions and theories of it. Then the paper describes several neural network model, algorithm and basis function of neurons. A theory about biomimetic pattern recognition (BPR) is discussed in detail.
