The Study And Realization Of Storage Method Of Data Mining Results Based On XML

Data Mining, which can provide important decision information for users, plays a significant role in DSS. It's always an issue in data warehouse and data mining how to improve the efficiency of DSS. One of the main solutions to it is to store and use the results of data mining. The significances of storing mining results are as follows: 1) storing mining results all together can decrease the storage space, controlling the volume expansion of data warehouse, 2) the results close to the time of mining request can be returned to users directly without executing the mining procedure again so as to improve the efficiency of data mining, 3) mining results can be used effectively, and 4) The storage method can achieve the share of mining results among different mining systems. Based on the thought, the paper adopts a new data mining architecture with storing mining results, which can improve the speed of data mining as well as the efficiency of DSS.After analyzing the shortcomings of existing storage methods of mining results, a storage method based on XML is proposed, that is, describing various mining results with XML firstly, then storing these XML documents in relational database. The author probes intensively into the methods of describing five kinds of mining results using XML (association rules, sequential patterns, classification rules, description rules and clustering results), and gives out an unified description method for them, laying a foundation for the concentrated storage, manipulation and share of mining results. It's the content and platform independence of XML that enables XML to be the unified form of describing mining results in different mining systems. The strong ability in data representation and powerful extensibility of XML enable the XML-description method to be the basis of describing most mining results.The method of using relational database to store and operate XML documents, which contain mining results, is also studied intensively and experimented on.Based on the storage method of data mining results, an emulated storage system of mining results was developed, realizing the whole process of storing and querying the five kinds of mining results.
