Research On Expanding Of BACnet To IPv6

BACnet (A Data Communication Protocol for Building Automation and Control Network) is the first formal standard of ISO in the building automation and control network protocol. The aim of BACnet protocol is to combine products from different manufactories and with various functions into one system and achieve the mutual-operation of those equipment. So BACnet can also be treated as a series of principles making the mutual-communication and mutual operation of equipment from different buildings available.As the wide spread of Internet, the use of IP techniques will be the developing trend of the network controlling systems in all controlling domains. So the IP work group of BACnet Standard Committee provides the "BACnet/IP standard" whose low-level controlled network is on the basis of IPv4 network. BACnet/IP directly supports the receiving and sending of BACnet message by the use of IP frame. And BACnet/IP can carry out BACnet broadcast effectively on IP network.However, because the IPv4 network has many shortcomings, especially the incapability of containing more IP addresses, IPv6 network which is able to provide a large number of IP addresses becomes stronger. Undoubtedly, IPv6 network must take place of IPv4 network completely and provide independent IP addresses for a great deal of equipment (including the building-controlled equipment).After analyzing the expanding mechanism of BACnet low-level communicating protocol and the system structure of BACnet/IP, this thesis provides the idea of expanding of BACnet protocol to IPv6, namely, constructing the low-level controlled system of BACnet by the use of IPv6 network. It then employs VC Socket API to fulfill this expanding.In what follows, the outline of this thesis is given: the theory of BACnet protocolâ†'the sketch of BACnet/IPâ†'the analysis of expanding application from BACnet to IPv6â†'the expanding application from BACnet to IPv6 by the use of Socket APIâ†'the simulation and test of BACnet equipment in the condition of IPv6.This thesis develops the theoretical analysis and research on the feasibility of expanding of BACnet to IPv6, and the expanding mechanism of BACnet on the low-level communicating protocol and interface between the network layer and data link layer.
