With green lighting project implementation, high-intensity gas discharge lights with high luminous flux, high optical efficiency, long life and good Hin color characteristics are widely applied. Particularly the metal halide light have the aforementioned advantages, so it is known as the ideal light source. The new, energy-saving and efficient light source need efficient controllers to drive, however, because of their own complex identity, metal halide lamps is activated more difficult. Especially when the lights work time, it need to wait 5~10 minutes before re-lit. The activate and re-activate features in some areas is restricted. Therefore, the design of the quick-start controller is the inevitable trend. The thesis presents a design program of the quick-start controller with electronic ballast, and the more in-depth theoretical analysis is finished.1,The activated process of the metal halide lights is analyzed. The processes mainly include four-discharged stage: Breakdown– glow discharge sputtering– the glow transition to the arc -- arc discharge sputtering. Through the relations of temperature-time, pressure-time and pressure-breakdown voltage, the relation between the breakdown voltage in different stages and time is derived.2,Metal halide lights start more difficult than other types of high-intensity gas discharge lights. The work circuit of the metal halide lights and the LC series resonance start controller are analyzed ,and its shortcomings are noted. Through the relations of breakdown voltage—time, The thesis discusses a quick-start controller using pulse transformer. The controller can ensure reliable cool start , at the same time meet the rapid activation of the warm start.3,The realization theory of the boost power factor correction that uses quasi-length models, uncertain frequency, and peak current-controlled devices, is derived theoretically.
