In recent years ,with strengthen in function and the lower price of the hardware, people start to pay attention to the combination of technology and domestic life, this has produced Information Application (IA) . It is the new product of the combination of computer communication technology and traditional domestic appliance, and it is new type of digitalization and network domestic appliance. The information appliances should have the characteristic of network, the digitization, information, the intellectualization, the low cost, strong stability and so on. WebTV, IPTV, the set-top box, PDA, VOD, the network air conditioning, the network refrigerator, the embedded network monitor system, network VCD, DVD and so on all is the information appliances in the market. According to the authoritative department forecast that, after future 10 years, the information appliances sales volume will be 10 times than PC.This paper in detail introduced one kind of information appliances framework of software and hardware. This kind of framework has the high performance, the low power loss, the low price characteristic, was adapting the market regarding this kind of product request. This framework is based on ARM nuclear series CPU and uClinux embedded OS and the main reason of choosing ARM and uClinux as the development platform of information appliances is analyzed. Transplant of this kind embedded system which based on the ARM and uClinux OS is the base for each kind of embedded application, namely building embedded development platform. In the concrete practical application, the thing only needed to do is according to the actual need to add the corresponding information gathering module (including hardware and driver) and the information processing module (the application program based on operating system) to realize each kind of embedded application.Finally I take this kind of software and hardware framework as a foundation and join the image gathering module (including hardware and driver) and the corresponding upper application program to make a embedded network monitor system, explaining the feasibility of the above framework by this practical application.
