One important application of embedded system is mobile phone. The transmission speed and availability is enhanced with the development of communication technology. Telecommunications industry is transforming from conventional "Transferring Industry" to "Service Industry", which provides new contents and value-added services for users. However, as an embedded equipment, mobile phone usually uses EPROM, EEPROM and Flash Memory as storage medium, instead of hard disk which has large storage capacity. Moreover, portability and low energy cost is necessary so that there is strict restrict in storage space and the processing speed of mobile phone chips. Hardware resource environment of mobile phone is always more rigorous than that of PDA. To implement complex functions in such an environment, embedded system software must be as delicate, steady and efficient as possible.Based on this character, this thesis studies some difficult problems during the embedded applications development based on BREW platform, so as to bring further improvement to the efficiency and quality of BREW applications development. Among these problems, graphics and image proceeding, and memory management is quite difficult to deal with.Multiple images proceeding is involved in many BREW applications, but the computing speed of most ARM chips applied in mobile equipments are not fast enough. It's typical that in the game development, speed becomes the bottleneck—screen mapping operation takes up about 80% of the runtime. So this thesis studies the optimization of image resources in the program, such as the proceeding of PNG format images which has high compression rate, the compression and decompression,...
