Intelligent optical networks are the most promising candidate for the future backbone transport networks. In the intelligent optical networks, connections can be set up and released dynamically, the network resource can be assigned and reconfigured effectively, and differentiated bandwidth provisioning services are provided.In this dissertation, we enter on the research at the traffic model of intelligent optical networks. We bring forward a kind of traffic which is called the scheduled traffic model for the first time, and this model is derived from the optical virtual private networks (OVPN) traffic. We want to get more knowledge about the multi-use of the time resource by this kind of traffic.Chapter Ⅱ studies the optimization strategies and algorithms. This chapter includes a description of several modelling techniques and optimisation algorithms normally used for solving the optimisation problems when planning the current transport networks. Due to the nature of the problems, it is expected that these types of techniques might be used, as well, for the optimisation problems involved in the optical network planning.Chapter Ⅲ research the integrated routing problems based on the peer model in IP over WDM networks. Considering different survival strategy, we give out some RWA algorithms. According to the simulating, we studied and compared all these algorithms' performance.Chapter Ⅳ studies the planning of Optical Networks, which includes the common flow, traffic grooming, the design of the transmission networks, the RWA algorithms and analyse of the result. Besides, we discuss the planning of the ASON networks by transition from the SDH/WDM core networks.
