The detection and tracking of the moving object based on the remote digital video monitor system is studied in this paper. It is an important technology in the computer vision. Now it has been widely used, as video conference, robot navigation and virtual reality etc.The remote digital video monitor system is studied from the image capture, image compress, network transmission, image decompression, preprocessing, detection and tracking of the object in this paper.The image is captured by the vc++6.0 and VFW in the capture of the remote digital video. The captured image is compressed by the mpeg4 algorithm in the compression. The compressed image is transmitted by Tcp/Ip in the transmission. The compressed image is decompressed by the decompression algorithm in the decompression. The image quality is improved by some image processing methods in the preprocessing.For the detection and tracking of the object, two improved tracking algorithm is proposed, as cost-function and improved snake model.If the object color or geometry feature is obvious, the result of the detection and tracking is good by the cost-function. If the time is very small between the frames, the result of the detection and tracking is good by the improved snake model.
