The chromosome is the carrier of genetic material. There are genes on it. It decides human being's configuration and physiological function. No matter what plant or animal, the chromosome in its karyon has a certain number and shape. Chromosome Karyotyping, the classical method in the technology of chromosome genetic analysis, is one of the important means in genetic research and supplementary clinical diagnosis.In the research of modern genetics eugenics and clinical diagnosis, the analysis of chromosome karyotype is inconvenient and time consuming, for it is always performed manually. This paper mainly researches on numerical analysis and processing method of biologically medical image on the background of image processing,neural network and pattern recognition of human Chromosome images. Some important technologies and core algorithms used in the system are discussed in detail, including the algorithms of segmentation, feature measurement, selection and classification. The main results and achievements are showed as follows:.1. Segmentation of chromosome: The chromosome image is segmented by the method of boundary gray level threshold and entropy algorithm based on genetic algorithm, then, after boundary smoothing and edge tracing, the chromosome position information is acquired.2. Diagnostic extraction of chromosome: On the basis of skeleton pixel after thinning, the medial axes are obtained by the orthogonal approximation. Along the medial axes with the same steps, we can get the average integral gray profile and the width profile.3.Karyotype classification of chromosome: According to the chromosome's geometrical parameters, the karyotype classification are realized through the normal Bayes classifier or fuzzy clustering based on the character of average integral gray profile.This research is suitable for the situation in China. With a broad application prospect, it will provide necessary device and effective testing means for the study of genetics, eugenics and clinical diagnosis.
