Ad Hoc network on-demand routing protocols react quickly to the change of network topology, and require low expenditure of bandwidth and communications, which is more adaptive to mobile Ad Hoc network. In this paper, we study and contrast some important Ad Hoc routing protocols, and aim at the implementation of two on-demand routing protocols (AODV and MAODV) on Linux system. However, the general popular operating systems do not support the implementation of on-demand routing protocols. They need the core of the operating systems be changed or enhanced. We analyze the on-demand routing protocols and Linux system, and design a method based on Netfilter to implement the AODV and MAODV protocols on Linux system, which enhances the Linux system core. Using this method, we accomplish the routing protocols implementation. We give the detailed design, including the function modules and their relations, the packet handling and the routing-tables structure. We design the test cases based on the protocol standards, and test the implementation in physical environments. Some problems in the test have been analyzed and solved. The result of the test indicates the implementation has been soundly done.
