A New Solution For Print Chinese Character Feature Points Extraction

Chinese character recognition is part of the field of pattern recognition and artificial intelligence. It is a synthesized technology. Print Chinese character recognition is an important topic in Chinese character recognition research. The main purpose of print Chinese character recognition research is to improve the efficiency and quality of the recognition. Print Chinese character feature point is one of the important features for print Chinese character classification.On the other hand, the technology of code for image has a rapid growth due to the continual growth and maturation in the field of digital image processing and pattern recognition. And it is used more and more in the field of digital image processing because of its good features.Using the technology of code for image, the author of this paper does some exploring research for the efficiency improvement on print Chinese character feature point extraction.This paper describes the general and current situation of Chinese character recognition, the general situation of image processing and pattern recognition. Additionally, it describes the theory and feature of the chain code representation for two-value digital image. Considering them as the basic theory, the author of this paper uses vertex chain code to create a new solution for print Chinese character feature points extraction, which is based on the region labeling automation invented by Gu Guo-qing and Xu Yan-bing.This new solution utilizes the feature of vertex chain code. It uses region labeling automation to obtain the vertex chain code for the contour of the Chinese character labeling image first. Then it applies a series of algorithms after analyzing the relationship in the obtained vertex chain code. At last, it extracts all the feature points for the specified Chinese character.Combined with the theory and algorithms for print Chinese character feature points extraction on the base of vertex chain code, Visual C++ is used to develop an experiment system for the new solution. The system can execute the feature points extraction for the print Chinese characters. It can also show the result of the extraction visually.
