With the rapid development of high-speed networks and the design of software for network parallel computing such as PVM, MPI, Express Linda and P4, the merits of network parallel computing, such as small costs, quick returns, strong flexility and high ratio of performance to costs, are more outstanding, making the network parallel computing be favored by more and more universities and research institutes both at home and abroad and become one of the important branches of parallel and distributed computing. With numerical experiments, the main work in this study is as follows:(1) The building of network parallel numerical computing platforms based on PVM on Win32 system, the setting of environmental variables, the startup of PVM and the configuration of virtual machine are discussed.(2) The methods for the design of network parallel numerical computing programs based on PVM on Win32 system are relatively detailedly explored in this study, including the basic PVM programming patterns, the decomposition of workload, the design of communication and the numerical stability of PVM parallel numerical algorithms.(3) The emphases are not only put on the discussion of several important factors which affect the performance of PVM parallel programs, including load-balancing, communication costs, network performance, task granularity, computer's memory capacity and the number of processors, but also on the corresponding strategies for improving the performance of PVM parallel programs.(4) With the speciality of network parallel computing environment based on PVM on Win32 system that the speed of the operation of processors is high while that of the communication between processors is relatively low considered, a parallel algorithm based on Gauss—Jordan elimination...
