In recent years, CAD/CAM is one of the most striking technology with rapid development in the field of engineering technology .It has become an important symbol of the modernization of industrial production. More and more complex surfaces are used in areas such as aviation, automobile, shipbuilding, tool marking and so on. In this paper, we consummate the processor of numeric control self-programming for complex surfaces, build the frame of the system and improve parts of the special CAM system software. In the fields like creating current milling cutter model, constructing workpiece surface, inputting parameters of tool and workpiece and developing of system interface, great progress has been made.In this dissertation, the principle of minimal orientation-distance, optimizing method at five points and the tool interference checking algorithm based on genetic algorithms that is improved for some practical reasons are introduced. We have developed the module of generating interference free tool path through numeric control self-programming for complex surfaces.In order to explore the system easily and make the software feasible, we set up generalized cutter model with two conical surfaces and round surface by colligating geometrical characteristic of all kinds of milling cutter. With every surface's equation and the surface normal n of the boundary surfaces of the generalized cutter given, the actual model of typical milling cutters are analyzed, and the interface of tool choice and friendly parameter input approach are provided.In the paper, the input methods of discrete point and parameter equation are used for NC machining. The input parametric surfaces are discrete, then we will get new surfaces with bicubic parameter spline function and build uniform workpiece model. The calculation method of boundary information matrix and the creation of the boundary condition are thoroughly studied;which lay foundation of for the calculating software for interference free tool path. Finally, the function and usage of the main-processor of CAM system for complex surfaces are introduced briefly.
