Taking the features of sports video into consideration, this paper addresses some key content-based technologies, and some novel ideas including description of video metadata, content-based video data management and browsing, which are based on the research of video parsing. Taking SportsVMB as an example, the work combines the current related fields'research achievements, designs and implements a content-based sports video representation, storage management and browsing system, which can be summarized as the following:1. Content-based sports video metadata descriptionReferring to MPEG-7 and SportsML international standards, this paper proposes a general sports video metadata structural description and organization mechanism, which is in terms of sports games'specific knowledge, and the self-description features of XML.The sports video contents which are acquired through shots segmentation, key frames selection, automatic or semi-automatic annotation are represented by using XML as an enabling technology. System defines a hierarchical video metadata structure in XSV, which makes it convenient to fully descript the video content from different perspectives. It makes full use of video's semantic and structural information, easily modify the results to improve the accuracy.2. Management Strategy of content-based sports video dataThis paper discusses the methods of video management; the management of video is changed into that of metadata. Metadata can then be used as index terms for video browsing to help end-users to locate the desired material and deliver it in a manageable format.Provided that the schema of sports video analysis result is matched, users can use kinds of algorithms to achieve them, which can be recognized using SportsMIC. According to the pre-defined controller file, the system automatically deploy the specific user interface.3. Research on content-based sports video browsingThis paper proposes a grouping and category scheme of sports video shots, so that users can conveniently view sports video content from different angles. The system provides an enhanced video player to perform clip's playback with text information about the sports match. Key frames-based browsing facilitates storyboard to contain thumbnails associated with the video segments represented by the key frames, which convey overview of the video content, dramatically decrease the needed bandwidth to transfer the video data. Friendly user interface helps user to inspect shots of interest, precisely jump to relevant portions of the video, and direct access to video segments.
