Narrative Study On Storytelling Talk Shows

Channels of discourse, reassembled is a famous book quite familiar to Chinese readers. The writer, Robert C Allen believed that the secret of success behind all kinds of programs, including sitcom, action movie series, animated cartoon, soap opera, late news, advertisement, MTV, game show, sports show, talk show and so forth, was narrating story. To a television program, the key to win the audience, take possession of the target market, obtain the economic benefits and social influence and the cure to gain unbeatable competitiveness are all depend on the its ability of narrating.Because of my strong interests in the ability of story-narrating of TV programs, I picked up the storytelling talk show program as subject of my paper. Based on the narrating theory of Barthes, my paper tied to find the secret of narrating story of storytelling talk show program, and discussed the contradiction VS compatibility between the truth idea and story-telling practice of talk show program.Chapter 1 focused on the noumenon of talk show program and discussed the essence and key qualities of talk-show program. And in this chapter, I reviewed development of storytelling talk-show programs in recent 10 years. Based on the view of storytelling as a narrative text, chapter 2 analyzed the narrative framework of storytelling talk shows, including the classification of story configuration mode, the essential elements to form a storyteller and the framing of plots. Based on the view that since talk-show is the narration of directors about the honored guests' stories, the narration is thought to be a kind of discourses, the chapter 3 pointed out that the discourses spirit of Chinese storytelling talk shows are nationality and modernlity.
