Clarifying sweet water is one of the important working procedures, separating impurities from sweet-water. Precipitator as a main equipment is widely applied in this procedures. Usually monitor flocculation is a manual work, which usually leads to instable quality of products and waste. A new high-resolution photography and digital image processing technique will be introduced into clarifying, for checking and monitoring the whole course. For one thing, exact controlling parameters will be acquired to control precisely on real time. For another, errors by manual subjective judge will be avoided; therefore, the quality and the efficiency will be improved. As far as the main goal of this research is concerned, the two aspects are emphasized: one is to build a rational hardware platform for the real time image processing technique. The other is the processing algorithm based on the DSP to monitor the sedimentation course. The material research task as follows: Based on traditional equipment, TMS320C6204 DSP of TI is designed as the core of the image processing system to replace hand operation to realize real time monitor, reducing a waste of resource, and advancing quality control. The image acquisition module consists of image sensor CCD of SONY, AD9844A as the A/D video converter. Image transmission, processing, and output integrate a suit of PCB. The algorithm to realize every function module is designed, which is for the hardware platform of the system, it can be used to capture images automatically, process and analyze them, which will realize checking the deposit height and flocculation grains, during the research, the algorithm of image feature extraction and analysis is posed for these images with uncertain figure, size and position.
