With the development of Power Electronics technology, many kinds of large power capacity switching components are widely used. On one hand, they made Power energy transformation and application conveniently, on the other hand, they lead to the serious reactive power and harmonic current pollution in the power system. SVG is used in not only compensating reactive power but also eliminating harmonic, and it is desired for saving sources and improvingthe quality of the power.Firstly, the existing compensating devices are compared and the superiorperformance of SVG is analyzed in this paper; Secondly, the traditional power theory and the instantaneous power theory are introduced, followed by the two kinds of current measuring technology based on the two power theories. The method of ip, iq calculating based on the instantaneous power theory is used to measure the current of var and harmonic. The principle of SVG is studied by two kinds: SVG needing energy or not. SVG needing energy is considered, the module of commutating is used to provide energy to SVG.Compared with the indirect control, the direct control has more superior performance in current tracking speed and control property. According to direct current control, we use Butterworth filter, and a hardware platform based on DSP2407 is carried out, after that, the ± 3kvar SVG experimental system is designed and the results are right.
