POLSAR is a new kind of radar, and it plays an important role in the application of SAR. The study of the polarimetric man-made targets detection algorithms is very useful for improving the application of SAR. POLSAR can create high-resolution images. Because of the wide and latent applications of POLSAR in many areas of military, civil and scientific researches, POLSAR is one of the most active fields in Radar and Remote Sensing nowadays. In this dissertation, man-made targets extraction in POLSAR images is systematically studied. Main contents include man-made targets extraction based on scattering matrix, man-made targets extraction based on covariance matrix [C] and the extraction based on geometric feature.First, this dissertation provides an overview of the POLSAR theory. Then, it is followed by the theory of POLSAR. Next, a more detailed discussion on all kinds of methods of man-made targets extraction is done. And the result based on every method is given out, and the comparison and analysis of them are also presented. And in this dissertation, scattering characteristics from buildings are analyzed. Then, a model proposed for OEC is employed. The model contains three kinds of scattering mechanisms: odd-bounce scattering; even-bounce scattering and cross scattering. Then a T-shaped model and a line-extraction model are used to extract the buildings. The results based on these models are given out, and the comparison and analysis are presented. In the end, it shows that this new approach can be used for man-made targets extraction. Finally, the whole work is summarized, and further work is introduced.
