Objective: The present study is to evaluate the clinical effect of using DR-based surgical planning software (computer template) in planning total hip replacement .Methods:1. Develop DR-based surgical planning software2. Between October 2003 and 2005 June, the authors performed 37 hip anatomic cementless THA in 35 patients with different clinical cases. Twenty-five THA in 24 patients with the conventional methods were followed up for average of 18 months. Twelve THA in 11 patients with DR-based surgical planning software were followed up for average of 9 months. All cases were implanted the same cementless prosthesis(Asian Hip). The patients were evaluated with Harris Hip Score and radiographic analysis.Results:DR-based surgical planning software had better proximal fit on postoperative X rays than the conventional method. In the clinical results the Harris Hip Score using both methods was not significantly different between patients, 94.5%of patients had excellent or good results evaluated by Harris Hip scores post-operation. There was no periprosthetic osteolysis and no evidence of loosening on follow-up radiographs. In conventional group 2 components sunk.Conclusions:DR-based surgical planning software improves the accuracy of proximal fit of cementless prosthesis . There had some difference between two groups in clinical effect ,but no stastic meaning.
