Information system tends to manage the multi-media information such as audio, image, and video as well as the static text information. The moving objects tracking is being studied and used as a quicker, more accurate, and more effective searching approach in the multi media information system instead of the traditional keyword searching approach. However, the background change of the weather, illumination, shadow, video camera parameters, and the video camera motion in the video makes it difficult to track the moving objects, especially multi moving objectives.An effective algorithm was proposed to automatically track the multi moving objects in this study. In the proposed approach, users first can select moving objects as tracking targets by dragging a mouse. Models of those selected objects were made based on their positions and gray-scale distributions. Then the camera motion values of pan, tilt and zoom were actively computed. At last the positions of moving objects were determined by referring to the camera motion values and the models of moving objects. During the computation, the models were modified to improve the accuracy of tracking. Preliminary experimental results showed that the algorithm was robust and effective to perform well. Then the moving objects tracking results and the video camera motion were used as a new searching approach to develop a model of a multi media information system using a content-based image/video retrieval technology. The important conclusions are showing as follows:(1) Multi moving objects can be successfully traced using the proposed algorithm under the complex background, which the background color and scene was complex and the multi moving objects existed in the same scene.(2) Multi moving objects can be successfully traced by the algorithm in the video, which was taped under different video camera motion of tilt, pan, and zoom.(3) The moving objects tracing results and the video camera motion can be used as content based searching approach to improve the searching efficiency of the multi-media information system more...
