H.264/AVC is the latest video coding standard of the ITU-T Video Coding Expert Group (VGCG) and the ISO/IEC Motion Picture Experts Group (MPEG). It can provide equivalent objective quality at a data rate about 50% than their required by H.263(Baseline) and MPEG-4(SP). However, the complexity of H.264 dramatically increases due to the adoption of a number of new video coding tools. How to cut down the complexity of H.264 and make it be practical has been a popular issue. This paper study and improve motion estimation which is the most complexity component in video coding. After investigating the new character of the motion estimation and fast algorithms adopted by H.264, three high-efficiency motion estimation algorithms fitted to H.264 are proposed. Experimental results show that about half time of motion estimation is cut down while keeping the similar video quality and bit-rate. At last, the design and implement of intra prediction, integer transform, quantization and entropy coding are investigated. |
