Laser diodes have been used widely in many applications, because they are small, inexpensive, easy to modulate directly, and especially can lase with narrow linewidth or chaotic state under proper optical feedback. While used as the light source in high-capacity, long-haul and high speed fiber-optic communications, gain-switched DFB laser diode with large linewidth and high chirp could increase dispersion, raise bit-error-ratio, and restrict capacity. In addition, chaotic laser with noise-like properties can be used to range with high and distance-nondependent resolution.Focusing on narrowing linewidth for gain-switched DFB laser diodes and range finding with chaotic laser generated from laser diodes with optical feedback, this thesis mainly includes that:1.
