Video surveillance is playing an increasingly important role in the national economy. How to perform intelligent scene detection and to realize real-time &effective management of information are the core technologies of video surveillance.The paper narrated the development and application of video surveillance system ,then the purpose and significance of the study to it was introduced.Meanwhile, we discussed the hardware structure of our tunnel video surveillance system ,finished modeling both the static aspects of the system and the dynamic aspects of the system and then divided this software into several modules with UML modeling language based on the requirement analysis of the system.Afterwards,according to careful analysis of character of surveillance scenes,a few digital image processing algorithms were brought forward,such as background extraction algorithm, motion detection& elimination noise algorithm, segmentation algorithm of moving object , object extraction and matching tracking algorithm,which belong to video processing module,the most important module of the video surveillance system. In contrast with many other processing algorithms and according to simulation and testing on site,these processing algorithms were finally chosen by us.As a result,we got a satisfactory result.Lastly,the paper briefly introduced the implementation of the system from both the hardware and the software. The detailed configuration of the hardware was given and the running platform, the software developing environment, the selection of database and the system working mode were introduced from the software.At the same time, the software defect which was found out during the software testing and its solution were expounded emphatically.In conclusion, a clear description on the whole process of developing tunnel video surveillance was given.Also the paper applied Object-oriented software engineering method , component software development mode and UML modeling language to the software system.It would be helpful for developing other similar systems.
