With development of Internet and multimedia at a very fast speed, applications require network for more and more Quality of Service. MPLS is a new generation of network technique that inherited label switching technique of ATM and utilized the agility of IP routing. MPLS will be one of core techniques that improve Quality of Service of network. MPLS uses label to execute fast packet switching in network, and integrates switching technique and IP routing technique for purpose of constructing a new kind of network structure with higher stability and higher agility. In network, Traffic Engineering, VPN and Quality of Service can be implemented more effectively and more conveniently by using MPLS technique.In network, to implement network fault recovery by using MPLS technique is more effective and more quick than by using traditional IGP routing, and is more agile and more convenient than by using SONET/SDH fault recovery technique. Research for fault recovery based on MPLS is not only one of important research fields but also the base of development of next generation network. Research for fault recovery of MPLS mostly focuses on tow aspects, Rerouting and Protection Switching. Rerouting technique establish recovery path after failure happened, however Protection Switching technique establish recovery path before failure happen. So Rerouting spends more time for recovery than Protection Switching, and makes more burden to LSR. However in utilization of link, Rerouting have more advantages than Protection Switching.At present, Protection Switching has two famous methods, Makam and Haskin, other methods basically come into being on base of them. Makam and Haskin have a common disadvantage that a problem will come out if the place of failure is away from PSL. For Makam, more packets will be loosed. For Haskin, path of Packet retrace is longer and delay time of packet is longer and disorder of packet is prone to emerging.Based on research for present methods, the thesis presents an New method of MPLS-based recovery to solve the packet loss problem of Makam and delay and packet disorder problems of Haskin, making use of retrace mechanism and search of Local Repair Path.
