Wavelets are a useful tool for signal processing applications such as image compression and denoising. But there is not such a single wavelets that possess compact-support, orthogonality, and symmetry at the same time . Instead of being generated by one scaling function, Multiwavelets are sereval wavelets with several scaling functions. In comparison to scalar wavelets, Multiwavelets simutaneously have several advantages such as compact-support ,orthogonality symmetry and so on, which are known to be important in signal processing. Thus ,multiwavelets offer the possibility of superior performance for image processing applications.As a rising branch of the theory of wavelet analysis, Multiwavelets is now being studied on the first step, More researchs on the theory and application of Multiwavelets need to be carried out. This paper makes some systematic researches on the theory and application of Multiwavelets, especially on design of Multiwavelets system and its Prefilter. The main work is summarized as follows:1. Systematically expounded the theory of Multiwavelets, thoroughly studied the origin, the construction and the realization of Multiwavelets.2. In connection with the energy compaction of Multiwavelets, discussed the Good Multiwavelets Properties.3. Use the GHM Multiwavelets as an example to compress image after it through Prefilter ,compare its result with wavelet's.All the algorithms are implemented in Matlab...
