The concept of NGN (Next Generation Network) has been introduced to take account the new situation in telecommunications, characterized by a lot of factors: open competition between operators due to the total deregulation of markets, explosion of digital traffic, e.g. due to the increasing use of Internet, increasing demand from users for new multimedia services, increasing demand from users for a general mobility, etc. Compared with the traditional telecommunication network and voice services, NGN is supposed to realize the convergence of nowadays multi network with the capability of providing multimedia services integrating data, voice, video and message. As the core control entity, Softswitch has good research value and market prospect. Softswitch must provide the multi-protocol access and open interface for services. And the capability of service trigger notification, which is the base of service, is a must of Softswitch. This paper focuses on the design and implementation of service trigger and detection point management in Softswitch. In the first part, the paper introduces the basic concepts of NGN and Softswitch, including the architecture and service features. Based on this issues, the requirements of service trigger and detect of Softswitch is put forwarded. In the second part, after thorough research and analysis of the traditional IN (Intelligent Network), a service trigger and detect model is introduced according to the basic structure of softswich. A module called DPM(Detection Point Management) is designed to fulfill the primary function of service trigger and detect cooperating with some other modules.
