GIS can handle a large number of data elements containing geographical information. The network maintenance departments and the network designers can quickly check the modes and the relations in information database with the use of GIS. In telecommunication network, each equipment has its geographical location. These base stations and the connect areas can be displayed by Electronic map. In the same time, they can be administered, configured, analyzed. By that good visual effect and feasibility can be obtained.This paper researches the technical characters and combining factors of geographic information system, database system, switching network analysis system in the direction of the application of GIS in mobile communication switching network design. This paper also deals with the project structure, divided module and programming process which based GIS, makes a data model for switching network, processes systemic projects, describes the testing program and the implementation of typical algorithm. This paper mainly discussed the combining of GIS with the theory of switching network adjustment.GIS has been applied to the actual work and received good results. Using GIS for network capacity planning can provide an effective perspective to estimate the trend and the performance of the network. It provides the best solution to the plan and design of the mobile communication network. By that we can improve the accuracy of the construction investment and the economic benefits, thereby enhancing the competitiveness of operators to participate in market competition.
